When you work through Gene-Works Oy on a client's site, three parties have a legitimate reason to see some data about you: you, the client company that directs your work (the user company, käyttäjäyritys), and the occupational safety authority (työsuojelu, formerly AVI) when it inspects the site. Each sees a different slice. Finnish law allows an employer to process only what is directly necessary (Act on the Protection of Privacy in Working Life 759/2004, sections 3–5), and neither your consent nor a commercial contract between two companies widens what a client may receive.
The rule in one sentence: you see everything about your own pay and hours; the client sees what it needs to run a safe, lawful site; the authority sees what the law lets it ask for. This page is written for the worker first, because the questions we hear most are "will the client know how much I take home?" and "will they get a copy of my passport?" The answer to both is no.

"Yes" in the client column always means: only for the client's own site and period, only while you are assigned there, and only what its legal duties require. The client company becomes responsible in its own right for the data it receives and may not keep it longer than its duties require; we put this in the leasing agreement with every client.
What a client never sees — the list
Your tax card and tax percentage. Your net pay. Your bank account and what was paid into it. Deductions ordered by an authority. Anything about your health — including a bare "medically fit" status. Your family situation or home address. Your full holiday balance. A library of scans of your passport, permit or diplomas — the client learns the fact and the date of our check, not the documents. Your history with other clients.
This is not a favour; it is the law (Act 759/2004, sections 3–5; GDPR Articles 6 and 9). A client that asked us for any of it would be asking for something we may not give.
What a client does see — and why it is entitled to
The client directs your work and is responsible for safety on its site, so it must know that the person it is directing is who we say, is qualified for the task and may lawfully work in Finland. Hence it sees your name, your trade, your cards and qualifications with their expiry dates, the basis and validity of your right to work (the user company must verify this for leased foreign workers under the Aliens Act 301/2004), the hours you worked on its site and the rate agreed for the assignment. When a card is about to expire or an induction is missing, the client sees that too — together with the name of the person at Gene-Works who is fixing it. That is what lets a client trust the arrangement, and it costs you no privacy.
The rate the client sees is the rate agreed in the leasing contract. Our price to the client is built openly — collective-agreement rate, supplements, employer contributions, housing and transport, our fee — and the client sees that structure for its assignment. It does not see your payslip.
The occupational safety authority — the third view
The occupational safety authority (työsuojelu, formerly AVI; since 1 January 2026 part of Lupa- ja valvontavirasto) inspects construction sites and may ask the employer and the client for contracts and terms, the applicable collective agreement and your classification, schedules and actual hours, payslips, the basis of your right to work, contractor's- liability documents, insurance, occupational health care arrangements, site lists, inductions, risk assessments and qualifications. It also talks to workers directly. Its job is to check that you are paid and treated according to the law and the agreement — it is on your side in that sense.
We answer such requests from our own records, within one working day, with a file for the people and the period concerned and a plain list of anything the file does not yet contain. We do not claim that every box is ticked when it is not. Nothing in your employment with us restricts you from contacting the authority or a trade union yourself, at any time.
Before any assignment — how it works today
Right now this site has no login and no client cabinet. Your profile is read only by our recruitment team. Nothing about you reaches any client until we have spoken with you and you agree to be proposed for a specific site; you get an e-mail when that happens. What the client receives at that point is the row "Client company" above — trade, experience, cards with status, right-to-work basis, availability — not your passport and not your contact details before you and the client have agreed to talk.
Documents proving your right to work and your qualifications are never requested through this site. When a site needs you, we invite you to upload them for that site only, into a protected storage in the EU that records who at Gene-Works opened each document. They are kept as the law requires — two years after your employment ends for right-to-work records — and are not shared with clients as copies.
The worker and client cabinets described on the For companies page are the next stage of the site. They will be built on the rules of this page: three views, the same red points visible to you, to us and to the client for its own site, and no client access to the columns marked "never".
If a number looks wrong
If your hours, group or pay do not match what you agreed, write to info@gene-works.fi with your ID or tell your Gene-Works coordinator; we check our records and answer in writing. The same open item is visible to us and, where it concerns the client's site, to the client, until it is fixed. You can also turn to the occupational safety authority or your trade union at any time; that right is yours and we do not limit it.
Common questions
Will the client know how much I take home?
No. The client sees the rate and hours agreed for its assignment and its own price structure. Your net pay, tax percentage and bank details are between you, Gene-Works as your employer, and the authorities.
The client asks for a copy of my passport. Do I have to give it?
The client is entitled to know the basis and validity of your right to work, and by law it must check it for leased foreign workers. We provide that confirmation. Where the client must see the document itself, it is shown, not copied and stored by the client. Copies stay with your employer, Gene-Works Oy, and are kept as the law requires.
Can the client see that my safety card is about to expire?
Yes — status and expiry date, for its own site, together with who at Gene-Works is renewing it. That is part of running a safe site and it does not reveal anything private about you.
What does the inspector get?
A file for the people and period under inspection — contracts, collective-agreement classification, hours, payslips, right-to-work basis, insurance and qualifications — with a list of anything that is not yet in it. The authority may also talk to you directly.
